Château Le Colombier in a few words...
Our property is located in the heart of the "Parc Naturel Régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin", which encourages you to take your time. You'll be charmed as you stroll towards the Pointe de Brévands in the Baie des Veys, a 4,000-hectare foreshore rich in flora and fauna. A colony of sea calves sunbathes here.
Carentan, 6 km from our property, is a picturesque town with a marina and aquatic center.
In the town center, you'll find a number of fine boutiques, while the supermarkets are on the edge of town. Nearby are Carentan and Isigny-sur-mer, best known for its butter, cream and caramels.
Not far from us, St Mère Eglise is 15 km away, Bayeux, famous for the Tapisserie de la Conquête, is 30 km, Cherbourg and the Cité de la Mer are 50 km and Mont St Michel is 105 km.
Charm and secrets are hidden in the many villages that dot the coast of the peninsula. The most famous are Port en Bessin, St Vaast-la-Hougue with the island of Tatihou, Barfleur, Cap de la Hague, le nez-de-Jobourg, port Racine, Barneville-Carteret and Portbail.
For World War II enthusiasts, there are still a number of places where the fighting of June 1944 is still remembered: Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach are just a short distance away, as are numerous museums and cemeteries, including the American cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
Anyone discovering Basse-Normandie will agree that there's good reason to love it.
